Week 18, 2/8/21

Here's what I've learned this week: TRAINS ARE THE WORST. That's all I've got for you today okeee byee👋👋

Stuck behind our third train of the day 😠

No just kidding, but trains really do suck! We've been in Waycross for a week now and there is like a billion trains that run through this town (hence the name). So a lot of this week has been spent getting stuck behind trains BUT it was still a great week! Waycross isn't as bad as I thought it might be! Haha as much as I wish I could say that I'm that missionary that goes along with whatever Heavenly Father wants me to do with no complaint whatsoever....I'm not that missionary. 😅 When we pulled into the tiny town of Waycross Georgia, I was like hmmmm I don't know about this....but this week has really showed me that you can find joy in any circumstances as long as you are doing what Heavenly Father asks of you!

After we spent our entire pday cleaning out our gross apartment and taking loads of missionary junk to the dump😅 we spent the week getting to know our area. Waycross is even more southern than Brunswick: the accents are thick and the BBQ is good! As far as the work goes, I can confidentially say I've never been busier. Sister Pope is a beast! We have been working our butts off this week meeting the members of the ward, meeting the people in our teaching pool, calling referrals, setting up lessons, and making videos for ward activities. There's so much to do here, and there's so many awesome people here!

We've met a lot of great people this week but one person that stands out to me in particular is Ernest. He's a recent convert, a veteran, he's 90 years old, comes to church and blesses the sacrament. He's very sweet and he's a great missionary as well: his grandkids really look up to him and they've started asking questions about our church and coming with him. So we're going to start teaching them, and I've never taught kids before but I'm super excited!

Pday golfing...yay!! clubs from the thrift store, no putter!

The one bummer about this area (or any area right now for that matter) is the fact that not many active people are coming to church. Unfortunately a lot of families are using covid as an excuse to not come to church since they can watch it from zoom in the comfort of their own home (I totally get it if they have a reason to be worried about the virus). So there's a ton of awesome active families here...but we don't see a lot of them at church sadly.

Georgia is beautiful!

It was a truly awesome week and we've got some really good plans for this next week, so stay tuned! I feel like I learn a lot from sis Pope everyday and we're getting really creative with our missionary work. Its all about thinking outside of the box these days since we don't just go knock doors to find people. We do a lot of working through members, fellowshipping less actives, organizing youth/ward activities, making videos, and calling former investigators.

Anyways have a good week! Love and miss y'all!
