20!!?🎈🎉

So I guess I'm a 20 year old now...it's kind of weird! I'm no longer a teenager, I guess I have to start growing up now.

First of all, thanks to everyone who made me feel so special on my birthday!  I really wasn't expecting much, but so many family members surprised me with cards and packages...it made my day!  I love you all so much!

Anyway, enough about me.  Honestly having a birthday on a mission was kind of weird because usually everything is about the people you are serving, and then there's one random day where everyone tells you it's all about you.  In my opinion, you're happiest as a missionary when you're more focused on others rather than on yourself.  But it was still a good day, let's just say I ate waaaaay too many brownies though.😅

As for the rest of the week:

-Sister Adamson left us and went to her original assignment in Costa Rica 😭 We knew this day was coming, but it was still a very sad goodbye to make.  I really enjoyed trio life there for a second! Needless to say, Sister Horn and I miss her a lot!

-We had an amazing lesson with a recent convert and a recently reactivated member!  We were planning on teaching about the Plan of Salvation, but once we got in the lesson, it was clear that's not what our recent convert needed to talk about.  He's been diving deep into family history and has learned so much about his past. He doesn't have the best relationships with some of his family members, so getting in to family history has forced him to mend some of those bonds with those certain family members.  He also expressed some of the problems he has had in his life since becoming a member of the church, and it gave our recent reactivated member a chance to bear his testimony about the lasting blessings that come from the gospel.  It was so cool to watch the spirit conduct the conversation!  At the end, our recent convert expressed his interest in taking some of his family names to the temple!! Wahoooo, we're so excited for him!

-We had another lesson with Eddie and Ken!  We taught them about the gospel of Jesus Christ and Eddie said that he would like to work towards baptism.  They've both been coming to ward activities and dinners with members so the ward has really taken them in.  I'll keep y'all updated about them!

-I'm not going to lie, besides Eddie and Ken, it's been pretty hard to find people to teach in this area.  The area I'm in is basically the suburbs of Jacksonville, so it's a really nice area.  It can be discouraging sometimes because it seems like no one cares and no one wants to listen to us.  I'm sure missionaries have always felt like that, but I felt it especially this week.  I know that I'm in this area for a reason, and God is preparing people to receive this message, but I'm an impatient person and I want to teach more people now!  Haha, anyway we do a lot of service (yardwork) for members, and we try to visit less actives and formerly taught people. I'm not complaining, I actually love mowing lawns!  But it's not exactly what I pictured missionary work to be like.  The members here have some nice looking lawns now!

I started reading the New Testament and Jesus the Christ this week and I have loved studying them at the same time.  Something I've specifically learned about is Christ's attribute Charity.  We talk a lot about the importance of having charity, but that's not always the easiest thing to do.  It's the natural man in us to turn inwards and to think about ourselves, our problems, our trials, why we aren't happy, and what we struggle with.  But Christ was always thinking about others, he was always turned outward, healing others, helping others, loving others.  Even after he went through the Atonement and was about to be taken away to be crucified, he took the time to heal a soldiers ear (Luke 22:50-51) because that's how much he loves and cares about us.

Book of Mormon study night

It's easier to focus on ourselves, but I've noticed in my life that I'm most happiest when I am turned outward rather than inward and when I focus on others rather than on my own "problems". Complaining won't get you anywhere in life, but helping, serving, and coming to love others will give you a sense of accomplishment and you'll notice that your "problems" won't seem as big anymore. I'm not saying to go love the person that cut you off in traffic the other day! I'm saying to make the effort to focus on others more than yourself this week. Take time to understand others problems and what they night be going through and you will come to love them through your effort.

Ok that was my bomb spiritual thought for the week your welcome! Let me know how it goes! Haha, I hope y'all have an amazing week, thanks again for the birthday wishes I love y'all so much!
