Week 52, 10/4/2021

Oh boy oh boy

This week was just awesome

I'm not just saying that because I say that every week

It genuinely was great! And yes, it was mainly great because of General Conference. I hope y'all watched it because it was soooo good. I have never watched it so intently as I have on my mission but it makes me think about how cool it is that we have a living prophet and apostles of Jesus Christ on the earth today. I know that they are all servants of God, and we should be so excited when they address us!

Anyway I'll get to my favorite part about Conference later, but this week actually wasn't as busy as our weeks usually are.  When we first got to the area we white-washed in (meaning we replaced the past missionaries) so we were very busy trying to figure the area out and meet everyone. Now things have slowed down a little bit, but it's OK because we have more time to focus on the people we're teaching.

Caroline is amazing! We had another awesome lesson with her this week where we taught the commandments and she accepted all of them with no problem so that was a miracle! That can be a tricky lesson sometimes. Another miracle with her is that we invited her to watch general conference with us and it looked like she wasn't going to come. But a few minutes after it started she showed up with her boyfriend who is a member! He leaves on his mission in a few weeks, so we're really hoping he can motivate her to take that next step and be baptized soon. 🙏🤞 But we'll see.

We had a cool experience with a recent convert Loretta this week. During companion study we felt like we should roleplay the Plan of Salvation lesson. Then while visiting with Loretta we found out that her nephew had just died a week earlier. We were able to reteach her the Plan of Salvation which she hadn't heard in a while, and it meant a lot to her. So cool how the Spirit works.

Last District Council before transfers

Then there's Ally. She's a YSA members girlfriend and he's been bringing her to activities. She loves them and gets along great with everyone! At Institute this last week he comes over to us and says, "hey let's give her a Book of Mormon" we were like uhhhh yes great idea! We're not teaching her yet, but she's well on her way and she already knows a lot about our church from him. Ahhh I love member missionary work. It makes life so easy for us.

Just defying gravity!

Funny story of the week: we tried to start a Book of Mormon study night.....and nobody came!! 😬😂 we chose to laugh about it instead of be sad, we'll try again this week haha

OK now for conference!!! I had soooo many favorite talks but my absolute favorite was....duh President Nelson's at the end of the Sunday morning session. It just doesn't get better than that. He talked a lot about the temple and the importance of building a strong foundation through our temple covenants. He said that the safest place to be spiritually when life gets rough, is living in our temple covenants. I've found that to be very true. He also said that Christ's church has been restored FOR US to help us fulfill our divine potential here on earth. I know we all have a greater purpose and potential then we even know, God has a plan for us and we came here for a reason. The restoration of the gospel is meant to help us fulfill our potential and help us make those covenants so we can return back to live with him again. I know that President Nelson is a prophet of Christ's church here on earth and I know that the church is continuing to be restored and will be until He comes again. Even if I'm all wrong and the temple is just a pretty building and the Book of Mormon just another good read, I know that everything this church is has provided me with so much hope and happiness. Way more happiness than I ever would've felt just going about doing my own thing. Jesus Christ is the master author of our lives if we let him be. It may not always be a comfortable narrative, but it will always turn out to be the best thing ever in the end. Because IT IS all true.

If you got bored and skipped over all of that, I just encourage y'all to go listen to Conference again when you get the chance. That's what I'll be doing for the next 6 months 😜
